I use Interceptor for heartworms and nothing for fleas.
I use Frontline Plus as needed (which is almost never).
Of course this way you risk an infestation but I'd rather do it this way then give toxins every month for no reason. We do have our yard sprayed though and Ellie almost never plays in wooded areas, etc.
