Tatum and Stormie (our Australian Shepherd) get Sentinel for flea/heartworm and Comfortis. We have a pretty serious flea situation in our area and have learned that Tatum has a flea allergy. Thus the reason for using both products. We give one on the 1st of the month and the other on the 15th. And yes, nearly year round since it really doesn't get cold enough in our area to kill off the fleas.
