Your vet is absolutely correct.
No breeder who has studied vaccines would start them that early.

8, 12 and 16 weeks is a good schedule but many vets are even starting later than that now.

If the vaccines are started too early they are just gong to interfere with maternal antibodies making the them and the vaccine uneffective and the dog unprotected.
