We bought a Europian bed from Ikea.. it has slats and you put the mattress on it.. makes it much lower..it is perfect and much less worry.. we had a dog that fell off the bed many years ago and punctured her left lung and bled out in less then 10 minutes.. so I still use a stool.. but this makes the bed much lower and much safer..
Read a thread earlier that the dog jumped off the bed even tho a step was there and broke a leg in two places.. had to have surgery..
