Thor has been scratching himself a lot over the past few days. He actually rubbed himself raw in one spot. I was rubbing his belly and I am like 95% sure I saw a little black bug crawling in his fur. I tried to catch it, but it was gone.

I went over the rest of him and I did find little black dots in his fur. This is flea poop, right?

I just gave him a bath in Dawn soap, but I don't think I saw any fleas in the bath water... I assume he'll still be itching for a few days from the bites. When should I expect to see him stop scratching?

Also, I put his bedding in a spare closet for the moment. Does anyone know how long fleas can live off the body?

Is it strange I couldn't find any fleas on him when I went looking? I thought I read somewhere that they like to hang out near the butt.
