It doesn't have to be lovy-dovey where you pick them up and hug them
But you have to say hello with some sort of touch to stop that heightened emotion and stop it from getting to a fever pitch
Actually that isn't what I have been doing, it's what I read yesterday and wanted to get some advice on. I have been greeting her as soon as I walk in and taking her out of the xpen shortly thereafter. I have her sit before I take her out as the breeder said not to take her out if she is jumping. Usually I don't even have time to change my clothes or anything before I take her out as she is jumping and barking. I feel so bad that she has been alone. However, she does jump and bark in the pen and will continue for quite a while. If I greet her and then leave she will continue jump & bark. What the article was saying is that when they jump & bark they want attention, if you give in to it you are teaching them to continue the behavior because it gets results. The article was stressing to have the dog learn to calm themselves down and once they are calm then take them out. My thought was that with Lily if I wait for her to calm down we will both be old and grey. So, I was just wanted some feedback.
