zinc Pennies made from the 1980s to today contain zinc, which can cause kidney failure and damage to red blood cells. A dog that consumes even one penny can become quite sick, or even die, if the penny is not removed.
I am also a parrot owner - Zinc can be fatal to a bird who weighs 350 grams. I have heard that TOILET PAPER AND PAPER TOWEL CARDBOARD can sometimes contain zinc so be sure to keep these away from your doggies. Mine would chew them up if given the opportunity!
