I go to school everyday.. and my parents go to work everyday... ?will that be too much for the dog to handle?
This can be a very difficult question. My litle Jemma is alone 8.5 hours a day and she does fine. BUT...your dog needs to get to know the house. What I mean is, you need to make sure there is NOTHING she can get into. Nothing at all on the floor or they'll grab it. Watch plugs, wires. Make sure she can't get into cabinets. Make sure the toilet seat is DOWN. She eeds penty of water too. If you are going to leave her lose in the house, which I don't advise yet, then you need to make sure, chairs are pulled in close to the table. She'll end up on the table eventually if you don't. They inspect everything. Walk thru your house. What do you see that your dog might get into and correct it. Yorkies inspect everything. Like Nancy said, maybe you can put her in the bathroom with pee pee pads and open a window so she has fresh air and can hear sounds. After she learns about the house and YOU learn and know more about her, then you can allow her more room to roam when you're not home.
second question....... the Yorkie is 3 years old and is a girl... my mom said that she'll have her period... is that true..?
Yes she will unless you get her fixed, which you really should do. There is no reason for a pet dog NOT to be fixed. It is your own personal decision. But it would stop her from bleeding and accidentally mate with another dog.
3rd question... How big do they get?
You said she is 3? She isn't going to grow any bigger. When you see her, the size she is will be the size she stays
4th................ are they calm, or very hyper.
Depends on the dog. Jemma at times can make mounds of dust running thru the house. Other times she likes to investigate. When she's too quiet, I look. And yet she might just want to be lazy. Your dog at 3 might be a little different, my Jemma is only 8 months old, still very much a puppy.
5th............... do they cry alot?
My Jemma does not cry nor bark. She might cry if I'm outside and she's not with me but see's me. In other words, she only will cry if there is a reason.
I think it is wise honey that you came here and asked questions. But there is so much more you need to know besides the questions you just asked.
If you do get her, you just can't start her on new dog food. Yorkies are delicate little things. Their tummy can get upset very easy. If you did that you would have poop everywhere and maybe her even throwing up. It has to be done very slowly.
So there are lots of things to know.
So I have a good idea. If you get that yorkie, maybe you can come here and we can help you with her. We can help teach you many things to have a happy doggie.
Another issue would be, if she is alone and it's time for you and your parents to leave, don't make a big deal with the dog that you are leaving. 10 to 20 minutes before you all leave, ignore her. If you make a fuss, she is going to wonder what all the commotion is. It will give her anxiety. If you just act like nothing is wrong she will learn to accept this as normal routine. do the same thing when you come home. Wait about 10 minutes and then just love her and take her out for a nice long walk. Always take her out on a harness, NEVER a collar around her neck. Collars can hurt their little airway.
Have fun when you go see her. Ask the owner and the people here all the questions you need to know, ok?
Hope all works out for you. It is a major responsibility. Once you get her, you will be taking care of her for the rest of her life. And she has a lot of life yet. It's not like you can skip a day. It's every single day.
I hope this helped you a little. Yorkies are the greatest!!!
