I subscribe to a Chihuahua Rescue group. I used to have three Chis (all died of old age; spoiled rotten). The rescues will take them no matter how old they are or no matter what condition.

I think some people just don't want to be bothered with their dogs after they get old or become hard to handle or whatever! My daughter works with a guy who asked her yesterday if she wants a 5 month old J. Russel for FREE because "I hate him, he annoys me and he's chewing the wall". Well a JR needs tons of exercise and attention and I guess this one is just past the "adorable little puppy stage" and he doesn't like it anymore. It's very sad.
