I am squeemish too about Male dogs and male anatomy in my bed at night.... so I demanded a girl. She is quite a diva, but worth every bit. In the beginning she bonded a little more with DH, but now she is a Mama's Girl! I can't go anywhere in the apartment without her right by me.
