I was thinking along these same lines. Ginger will either play with and kill bugs or get completely spooked by them...and once she's spooked, look out. She hides, stares at the ceiling, snaps at the air. If it wasn't sad it'd be comical. Check him carefully for fleas (maybe something bit him). Good luck. I hope he's back to himself soon.
