It is a form of cyanide (Amygdalin) found in peach pits. But it is really not that lethal unless in massive quantities. A person would have to eat something like a pound and a half of the seeds inside the pits before they would have a problem (think bushels). I would definately not feed peach pits to a dog, but if they happen to chew on one, we won't have to freak out. Peach and Apricot pits were used to make a cancer-fighting drug that did not work (laetrile). People could take 500 mg 3 times a day (which would be a LOT of peach pit seeds) with no ill effects.
