Is there some kind of wax or protective layering you can do to the floors? At least they're going to replace the damaged ones...
They should also take care of the protective layering.
As long as your baby's nails are not touching the floor when they're standing, it doesn't need to be cut. As mentioned by myteddybear, you can round & smooth the end of the nail w/Petipaws or a dremmel.
I wouldn't have them wear shoes/socks...dogs can only cool themselves through the pads of their feet & by panting (through their tongues.)
