There may be some validity to the studies, but I think the overall amount of growth is negligible. I've have also heard from a vet that no longer does early neuter because of indications of it causing some sort of digestive trouble. If I had the choice I would probably wait until a male is a little older to have him altered, just because of the unknowns regarding the long term health implications. I think differently though regarding spaying a female and think it's best either before their first heat or shortly thereafter.
With Reno, his breeder spays/neuters all pet placements before they leave, so I didn't have a choice. Although, I don't believe it made him grow any taller, he has fairly short legs as it is.
