I have posted in the past about my unending trouble with hawks. To a hawk, a yorkie looks like a rabbit, a big mouse or just plain FOOD! I have looked all over the web for ways to protect my dogs from the "devil birds" but the only thing I have found, is be out there with them at all times! I cant tell you how many close calls I have had even when I am out with them. Hawks have very little fear as they are predators and I have had them dive bomb ME! When they are nesting and raising young, they are all the more dangerous, especially to a 3-4 pound dog. Mother nature is a fascinating thing....I have learned to listen to the trees now, the jays and the doves will always tell you if a hawk is nearby. Hawks will raid nests and the jays go CRAZY and "scream" when a hawk is within 100 yards of their nest. The jays r never wrong. There is a difference in the calls of the jays....when they are just being social its a more relaxed twill, but when its a hawk...its excited and panicky.
I dont know if this will help you, but it has been the best protection I have found so far besides enclosing a pen for my 3 babies.
Good Luck!!
