I did a Snopes search on this and they can neither confirm nor deny this. The exhibit did occur in Nicaragua. There was a sick looking dog as the exhibit, but the museum CLAIMS that the dog was well fed and taken care of after-hours. They claim that the dog ran away one night, not died.
I don't know about you, but that seems like too many CLAIMS to me. This is so sad.
