The DNA number shows that that particular dog has a DNA profile on file. If the dog is AKC registered, has produced more than I think it is 7 litters in a year, then a DNA profile is required.
THe DNA profile only is used if there is doubt that a certain litter or pup is the progeny produced by that sire. It is NOT a health clearance, a misconception thought by many.
A foreign dog, ie from Canada, if studded to an AKC registered bitch, AKC will require a DNA profile from that male before they will register the litter even if that dog only produced one litter. |
