My update for today isn't as uplifting as yesterdays. Last night I talked to Patti until 1:45 AM. She had gone to find a lounge chair and couldn't find one so she went to the camping department and got a little cot. She was happy about that and hoped for some sleep. She sounded so tired and somewhat discouraged as we talked.
She called me at about 4:30 AM and was about in tears. They were having a terrible time. Jack had torn out his IV's at one time and Patti said for some reason, there was so much blood...over him, her and the bed. Then she fell asleep and woke to the bed alarm and Jack standing on top of her. He had gotten out of the bed and her cot was right next to the bed. One of the male nurses told her that she would not be able to care for him at home. Patti asked me if Jack being home in familiar territory, if I thought that would make a difference. I just don't know...Maybe, but gosh...I do know that head injury patients are extremely hard to care for. I am worried sick not only for Jack, but for Patti. She got no sleep last night as one thing after another happened. She was giving Jack a drink of Pepsi with a straw and he told her he didn't want that "string" in there. He is so confused.
Okay...another update...Patti just called. Their doctor came in and she told him that she wants Jack home. The doctor understood and said he has already ordered the hospital bed and everything Jack will need to be delivered to their home. If it is delivered by today, he can go home today! Patti told me that she is going to get home nursing care for him. She thinks this has been hard on her girls and wants stress taken off them. So, I breathed a sigh of relief when she said she will have round the clock help there. Whew! The doctor thinks Jack will do better at home than in the hospital and all the meds he needs can be taken by mouth.
Patti just called again. All the wheels are in motion and it looks as if Jack will go home today, by ambulance. Patti said she will let me know and then I will pass it onto you.
Patti said thank you to everyone for the prayers. She knows it is the prayers that are helping them through this. They will continue to need lots of prayers.
Also, I asked Patti about giving out their address and she doesn't want me to do that. She may change her mind. She has been so overwhelmed that I don't know how she can think straight.
Hugs and thanks to all! |
