Any breed of dog is able to get hot spots and yea they usually cause hair loss and scabbing and even raised skin in the area. Typically its a reaction skin allergies that causes the dog to lick, chew and scratch the area over & over again until it's rubbed raw. There is treatment for these spots but the best thing is to do preventative maintenence. Allergy tests, change food, change shampoo etc. Harley was all itchy & scratchy when I first got him bc I was feeding him Royal Canin & it has corn in it so I changed him over to a better food and only use all natural oatmeal shampoo and we have 0 problems now! I hope this helps you guys. Your poor babies.. I hope they feel better ASAP!
