For Scooters first few hair cuts, I took a ziplock bag of his favorite treats with me to the salon. I didn't want to leave him at the salon very long so I scheduled an appointment and waited for him to finish. I sat at the coffee shop next door waiting for them to finish. Our groomer hid the baggie in her jacket. She would stop every fe minutes and reward Scooter for being calm. He caught on to the idea and pretty soon, he knew that when he was in the salon on their tables, if he stood still, he would get jerky. They slowly increased the time in between treats. Now, he walks right in the salon and gets one big reward at the very end of the appointment. I still schedule appointments so that he doesn't sit in the cages at the salon so that coffee shop is still a favorite of mine.
Long story short, I recommend taking a bag of treats. It made haircuts a really fun thing for Scooter. |
