Like Ruth and so many others I don't allow anyone into my home that I don't know. I don't tell people that I have puppies available anymore because of how Peta and H$ are trying to make us all out to be these horrable people that don't care about out pets whether they be dogs, cats or horses. It doesn't matter to them, their goal is to make owning a pet illegal for any reason. H$ doesn't give two hoots in haidies what kind of facility animals are kept in. I could be someplace that has 24/7 on hands care givers and each animal having its own persoanal servant and they would still find a way to make it sould like the dogs are being abused. Why??? just so they can line thier pockets, do a google search of how much of the money donated to H$ is actually used to care for animals who are really being mistreated and abused, it's a joke.
Another thing some people don't realise is that H$ is NOT part of your local Humane Society nor do they have anything to do with them in general. So do I have any faith in H$??? H$@L NO...
I don't allow strangers into my home for several reasons and never until I feel totally comfortable with them after much questioning and alot of reference checks. I also encourage them to contact the references that I give them on myself as well as my vet.
If someone where to call in regards to one of my babies and ask the questions the OP asked regarding records kept etc... they would be asked why they need to know what my records contain and then told that it was none of thier business, WHICH IT ISN"T.
After I feel comfortable with the person I do allow a home visit to get to know the puppy and see the parents but, are they allowed free roam of my home? NO A CHANCE
Also once they are at my home they must take their shoes off at the door, are given a pair of pull overs like the surgeons use at hospitals and then made to wash any and all bare body parts with my disinfectant.
I have several friends who have been severly beaten after someone has been to thier home to see thier puppies and then they returned only to harm and steal. So yes I am overly careful about not only who gets a puppy I may occassionally have but about what I go thru before I even think about placing one of my puppies.
To the OP:
I would suggest if you don't feel comfortable with the answers you got then move on until you find a breeder who answers your questions the way you want them answered.
I would however talk to afew reputable breeders and find out what questions are appropiate to ask and what aren't, because some of the questions you ask'd Ruth are way beyond your right to know. JMHO and how I do things at my home.
Also if you go to my website you will see that I don't have it up and running trying to sell my babies but rather so that people can see them and the surroundings they are raised in (which is in my home). So I don't believe you need to have puppies availabe all the time to have a website up. I haven't updated my site in some time now but I will be soon. And you will not find any puppies for sale...
so very true and so scary for the future of all of the breeds.
