| My Harley Hi and thanks for welcoming me to Yorkie Talk. My yorkie (Harley) has had a pretty rough year. It started in February with blood in his urine. Just a little infection that antibiotics cleared up. Then in March, got shots, and heartguard. April, had 2 ear infections. May, had some constipation problems. He was taking FortiFlora (a probiotic) powder that you put on the food. I talked to Purina and the vet about his excessive thirst. They both just thought that since the powder was put on the food that maybe it was just making him thirsty. Well, after days of being off the FortiFlora, he was still drinking lots of water and urinating a lot. I took a urine sample in to the vet, and they wanted Harley back in for a blood glucose test. Needless to say, Harley was diagosed as being diabetic. He is only 4 (will be 5 in August). I started him on insulin 2x a day and he is now on WD food. Just in a month, he lost almost two pounds. I just knew there was something still not right with him. Always remember that if you suspect something is not right with your baby, you are usually right! I am glad that I was attentive to his needs. And, don't worry, he is in good hands with me. I had 2 cats with renal failure and I did their fluids daily for up to 9 months. I am also a diabetic and give myself insulin. So, again, thank you for welcoming me to Yorkie Talk! BT |
