In 2005 I have to have my companion of 17 years put down due to a complete liver failure. The hardest thing I ever did. My daughter came with me to drive as I could not, she wasn't much better. The vet took care of the body as I lived in an apartment and did not have much money. He then sent to us a plaque with a beautiful poem on it and her name. That showed up about a month after she passed and really opened up the wounds. How long does it take to get over it, eternity. I still get weepy at times especially when I see her pictures. My fur baby General Lee helps a lot. He is not a replacement, but a reminder of the wonderful time she and I had together. (He also sometimes looks like her). The loss of a fur baby is the same as loosing a family member as they are our families. Loosing my mother helped me see that. The pain never goes away, it just fades some. Hang in there and God Bless. |
