I am sorry about the loss of your baby. I know how you feel about those places. I found a starved Pitt one night. It being night I had no choice but to bring him home. I have a large crate that I keep just for stray dogs I bring home as I won't put my little ones in danger with a strange dog but also not willing to leave them stranded. We had him for 3 days while I searched and searched for a no kill shelter because no matter what I was not taking him to a kill shelter. I finally found one a couple of towns over and drove him there. My daughter and I went in and looked around because I wanted to see where I would be leaving him and after grilling the woman there about thier policies, we reluctantly left him...with me in absolute tears. The place was dismal and looked like a doggy "jail. It just broke my heart to leave him. I was at least secure in the fact that they don't put them down and I called every day until he found a home. I am not a pitt fan but he was sweet and I felt terrible taking him even there.

I am also not a cat person but can not stand the thought of him going to a kill shelter and not getting a chance at life.

No word yet, guess he is not a night owl like me! LOL
