Vet Visit. We we took Elaine too the vet today. Things went very well. The vet guessed she was around 10 years old, just like the shelter guessed. They also confirmed she has no teeth, he said there was a possibility she had bone fragments in her gums be he did no think so because her gums where not swollen and she looked pain free.
He said the bone in her chin region that connect her front jaw was missing. (I forget the exact term but when I get the vet report I will post it all) so her jaw was not properly connected, he said it could be from a broken jaw but he did not think so. He though she had such a bad infection she lost her teeth and it destroyed some of her bone and even gave her an underbite.
Her bones feel "sharp and solid" and she is pain free and can function fine so he does not think it is a degenerative bone problem. He also said she has learned to adapt to her "problem" quite well and he does not think we should do anything. He said there is a surgery we can get done but it will only make her "look better" she also thinks it might give her a little better tongue ability.
She is also beginning to develop cataracts but she can see fine and he think we should wait a while too deal with that.
So her pretty much said as long as she does good the way she is we should not change anything. However if she starts to have problems we should look into surgery. They surgery would be putting a screw or inplant into her front bottom jaw connecting and leveling the two sides.
