OMG!! PLEASE LISTEN TO ME!!!
NO MORE COLLARS ON YORKIES!!
I have never put a collar on my Mari but she has a SEVERE collapsed trachia. If you don't know anything about this condition, and think it's no big deal, think again. Seriously, I don't know why she is still alive.
This condition is horrible. My Mari, is just 4 yrs old has had this condition for going on 2 years. I don't know how it happened, but she is very lucky to be alive. The honking like a duck when she can't breath. The drugs, the watching her tounge turn blue, the worrying if she will be alive in the morning, the constant worry what will trigger it. (Heat, barking, any excitement, etc) I know it is so hard on her little heart breathing so shallow, so weak that she can't take a step.
Mari is only a little over 4#. She is a beauty. I honestly didn't believe that she would live until this past Christmas, but for some reason her breathing finally started to get a little better. She has to be monitored constantly to make sure she doesn't get to excited for fear she will not come out of the hard breathing. Her last and LONG episode lasted from mid July until the end of the first week of Dec. The vet was sure she would die soon because that hard breathing was so hard on her heart. It was just heartbreaking.
As I said it was not a collar that did this to her. My previous little girl always wore a collar away from the house, no problem. It wasn't until Mari ended up with this that the vet asked if she wore a collar. I had recieved this cute halter when I got her and only have used it, so it wasn't that.
I am so sorry to have rattled on, but it is a very sensitive subject to me.
I had also heard from previous people about jaws getting locked in collars.
