I didn't get mine as pups so I faced the challenge of adult dogs who had never been potty trained. Tater was very difficult and is still not 100% but got light years better after the 'snip snip'. He will potty outside with no accidents as long as I take him out regularly. He is just not good at telling me he wants out. CoCo is my puppymill girl and I thought it would be difficult to train her but she was very easy compared to Tater. She also won't tell me she wants out, but she loves to go out because she gets yummy treats when she does!
