Maybe the children should take on some responsibility with him? Let him know you are a family and not just you and him. My oldest son is 7 and really enoys helping out with Tinkerbell, he feeds her, lets her out to potty, he even trains her a little and tells her to sit and down for treats, etc. SHe pretty much sees him as number 2 in line, if I am busy and can't hold her, she runs to him and gets in his lap.
