This second liter I used a heat lamp instead of pad (I put it over half the bed, then mom and they can move away if they get too hot) and I think it works better. I bought a thermometer and laid it in the bed with them and whenever I checked on them I made sure it was in the right temp range.
Mine would have little droplets of liquid on their noses and sneeze a bit - if they are eating, gaining etc a sneeze here and there I wouldn't worry so much. You could take their temps if you are really concerned (can't remember what the correct temp for that age is, but you could find it online)
As for the tail - I wouldn't worry so much - mom licking may help it heal - if isn't bleeding and doesn't look infected I wouldn't worry.
If you do take baby out, before and after you let it nurse you can hold it up to the mom to "potty" it so that you don't have to. | Awww, I'm sure she went to a wonderful home, since you obviously love your babies. I have been checking the temp in their box and it has been 90-ish. The draft from the fan was a big no-no. It wasn't on top of them, but it was in the room, so it is now off. You're description of the tiny droplets is exactly what I'm seeing. I realize it's no guarantee, but you have made me feel tons better! I cannot describe the tail except for that it looks red and raw, with less hair every time mama gets to it. (I cringed as I typed that). She tucks her tail under when both her mom or I try to help her go potty. She's either really shy, or it really hurts. I bet that has a lot to do with the redness...it gets licked when her mom is trying to get her to go poop b/c it's so short, and that area is so close to her tail. Hmmm, Believe me, letting her stay with her mama is way easier for me, so I would love to, but I worry about what it will look like tomorrow. I might just give it one more night and see how it goes. That and the fact that I checked on them tonight, and the mom had rolled over and was on her way to sleep, but I couldn't find the little boy. I quickly picked up mom to find the little one squashed under there. My husband said, and I quote, "I would never leave her alone with those puppies for a second." LOL Coming from Mr. Practical, I was fairly surprised! He likes to crawl under her, and I'm sure he was on his way when she rolled over on him. Thank so much for you experience and advice. |
