If she's a stage 2, she probably doesn't need surgery (yet). They usually don't recommend surgery until at least grade 3. I think your vet is right not to worry too much right now. I'd just make sure to keep an eye on her, and have the doctor recheck it at her regular visits. She may never progress past the stage she's in now, or she could move quickly to a grade 3.

I'm a firm believer in glucosamine. You're doctor is correct in that the LP itself won't be affected by glucosamine, but the damage it causes can be helped greatly (inflamation, arthritis soreness, etc.). It does not hurt to give them glucosamine and it can have great benefits. I would start her on it now. I recommend Cosequin. Good luck!
