I'd keep Walker out of the weeds and swamp, and walk him on grass or paved surfaces. The ticks are out of control where I live as well, and our dogs stay on our deck or walked on the road. We live in the woods, and it's just not worth the risk of any of us getting Lyme Disease.
I don't think any flea/tick preventive is 100% reliable.
