I recently purchased a new yorkie, and to say the least I was hesitant about potty training him, because I do not dispose of the time or energy to follow him around or have a strict eating schedule, or monitor circling 24-7. Those just seemed like very time consuming annoying things.(Im a med student, so I really cant devote a few weeks of taking him out of the crate to wait for him to feel lke pottying)
But Im happy to say that I found a way of paper training him, without having to do any of those things except play with and enjoy him.
Tools:
1. small foldable pen.
2. Newspaper
3.Small bed or cloth house
So.Day1 I made the mistake of folding out the pen sections to be too big, so of course he went everywhere.mission unaccomplished.
Day2, I wised up and made the pen only small enough to fit the bed and next to it one section of Newspaper.(Ill try and post a picture later)
So he would sleep and play with his chew toys in his little house, and of course, since dogs dont defecate where they sleep, hes forced to exit his house and do his business on the newspaper lying directly outside of it. (there's no other option).
I let him eat, whenever he was hungry. and only had to supervise him when he would play outside of his pen.
Day4. I was watching him play around the living room, while I watched him as I studied out of the corner of my eye. and, something amazing happened. My little 2 month bundle of joy walked over to the newpaper I had lying on the floor next to me, sniffed it a bit, recongized the surface he would do it on in his pen, and PEED!!! i was so happy i grabbed him and did the happy potty dance lol.
Its now Day 6 and he consistently goes on the newspaper whenever he roams the living room. I still keep an eye on him to make sure he doesnt get into trouble, but I no longer have to worry about him going on the floor.
I really hope this will be helpful to someone else who really wants to paper train their pup but doesnt dispose of as much time as regular crate training requires.
