Our Yorkies are pets. Our first one, Ginger, was purchased from a pet store. When we took her to be spayed, the vet said she had a double hernia and they fixed them while spaying her. She is 5 yrs old now. Our second Yorkie, Maggie, was listed by the breeder at a significantly reduced price because of a small hernia. We fell in love with her and purchased her. We just took her to the vet for her 1st rabies shot and told her about the hernia but said we don't see it. She checked Maggie over and said she can tell where it was but that it has closed itself up and that she doesn't need hernia surgery. She is 4 1/2 months old now. It's no big deal to have the hernia repair though and doesn't cost much more when done at the time of the spay.
