Parvo Well on Tuesday I took our litter in to be examined, everyone was great. On Wednesday night I noticed one had a slightly soft stool. Didn't think too much. Thursday he was getting a little worse, called the vet and they recommended keeping him hydrated. Everyone else is doing good, may just be a slight reaction to vaccines. This morning he dies. I called the vet rush everyone in, and we have Parvo. Never in 30 years have we had Parvo. Nothing has changed around here, except I switched vets. I am now thinking, had I not everyone would be fine. I chose to switch over because, they are the best in our area, and our current vet was more into equine/cattle care than small animal. I thought I was doing our babies better by going with a small animal and well
recommendedoffice. I strongly believe that it was contracted in the vets office. And the vet some what agreed. But since it is so highly contagious they can't be held responsible. He was kind enough to not charge and office fee, and not charge me for an experimental drug that has shown to work well. My total was only 163.00 and that covered the testing, a saline drip to administer fluids under the skin, amoxicillian, and anti nausea medicine. I have my hands full with all our dogs being exposed and two more litters, one that is 5 weeks old and one that is 3 weeks old. I never imagined that it would be Parvo, that was the last thing from my mind.
Here's what the plan is Oseltamivir(experimental drug) today and tomorrow, Beef liver water 4 times a day, 1/4 dropper of Amoxicillin twice a day, Metoclpramide 0.3 mL twice a day and saline fluids injected 2-3 times a day. We are also giving all the dogs ( that are not ill) a shot of Duramune Max Pv as precaution, even though all are fully/currently vaccinated, and the pups will now receive the Pv at 6-10-12-14 weeks along with our regular schedule of 5 way at 8-12-16 weeks, per his recommendation. Has anyone had any luck pulling a litter thru? I am so stressed and feeling overwhelmed, I can't stand the thought of these poor babies suffering. I just don't understand why/how this happened. |
