Ok so tonight I went to Kohl's dept. store (

w/ my mom and I bought a really really cute eyelash type throw blanket for my living room. Its purple eyelash material on one side and has matching purple satin on the other side. It was $8.99 for the blanket. They had a ton of colors.
I know that the material to make those eyelash sweaters is expensive and the satin for the other side is expensive (by the way, in case you didnt know, people line dog clothes with satin - it helps prevent matting in long-haired breeds). Could you just buy one of these huge throw blankets for $8.99 and cut it part as needed?
Following suit, couldn't you buy blankets @ dept stores (fleece or other cute kinds) to make dog coats and fleece sweatshirts?
