Do you have an xpen? Put his crate/bed, food/water, pee pads, toys all in there. It should be enough for him to play and walk around. I don't think they'll like it if you just put them in the crate all day and they can't really move around. Or if you can put up a baby gate and put all his stuff in a laundry room or something like that.
