My only suggestion would be so somehow block the box off so that they can't get out of it, bring them to it when you know they have to go.. give them a few minutes and then praise/treat like crazy. I've now removed the pee pad from mine and Coco is going in it great, it is placed inside a small ex pen in the garage and I had to position it so she didn't have much room around the sides because she did go on the concrete a couple times.
