I thought of that, but I'm convinced Max would chew and digest bits of the artificial grass. He doesn't have a general chewing/eating problem -- he has not damaged anything like clothes, furniture, woodwork. He does chew his own stuff, including a plastic frame to hold the piddle pad. I was afraid that he would break off a piece of plastic that would cause harm to him, so I took it away.
Also, Max won't do his business in the real grass outside. He only goes on the pavement. I'm seriously considering making a block of pavement to bring into the house for him to use when I'm gone.
