It's a very soft leather and you can adjust the buckle so there shouldn't be any tightness or friction. I love the way this belt works, easy to take on and off, and so strong, I can pull him off the ground and into my arms with one swoop. We often come upon big dogs with no leash, so this is helpful. I have several different harnesses, but this is by far my favorite, I love the way it looks on him, I think it will probably last forever. We do take it off, after walks, so chewing has never been a problem.
