Prince had a similar problem with shredding the pads.... I would tell him NO very firmly and then when he dropped it I would give him a treat and use a clicker. Then I bought him a lot of toys he could easily pick up and throw around and when he was left alone he would end up playing with those inside of shredding the pad or anything else in the house for that matter. When I see him playing with his toys I reward him with a treat...
