Ok, here's what happened. I got to the shelter right before they opened, went in and inquired about little Dalton. Turns out he was just rescued from a local puppy mill raid and is about 8 years old. The shelter volunteer didn't know much else about him so I actually ended up talking to the shelter manager who was very nice. He told me that he had just made arrangements with a really nice rescue facility in Wisconsin who had already been promised this little sweetie because of his severe neglect, abuse and medical problems. So I was dissapointed, yet relieved that he was NOT going to be put down and would be in good hands.
But it doesn't end there!
The shelter manager asked me exactly WHY I would want a dog like Dalton, given his past and all of his medical issues. So after explaining my sincereness about wanting to a "rescue" dog and assuring him I was well aware of the potential difficulties and such that may arise during the process, he told me he had also recieved another dog that was from the same home/mill that Dalton came from. So he asked me if I wanted to see her and I of course said YES!
So he takes me to see this shaggy, skinny, totally sweet little girl all huddled in her cage. She is a "Borkie", "Yo-chon", "Yi-chon"...or whatever they are called! LOL She is half Yorkie and half Bichon and she is just the sweetest little thing. So very quiet, a little timid and she definitely needs a new hairdo
So to make a long story short, the shelter manager asked if I would like to adopt her and I did! I just took this picture on my cell phone (I'll get a better one soon!). We just arrived home a little while ago and her and my Yorkie are hitting it off very well. Oh and get this, her name is MILEY. So I'm not really sure what to do about that yet. She already knows her name and comes when you call her. So for the time being, I have Miley #1 and Miley #2!
So a happy ending after all...
