Yorkies used to weigh 17 lbs in the early 1900's. They were noted for being varmin hunters. The Maltese Breed has already been incorperated into the Yorkie Breed!! This was to down size the dogs for a smaller breed, Just as the in corperated the maltese with the Poodle breed in the early 1900's. Your the Dork here!! lol
Wow that is so interesting to find out the original Yorkshire was 17 pounds by nature, and now it makes perfect sense why my Morkie is larger than I expected. From the original information that I could find both the Yorkie and Maltie were small dogs balancing out between 7 and 10 lbs. I got my Morkie at 4 months she was 8 lbs and I was told she would max out at 10 lbs. As of June 1 7 1/2 months old she weighed 12 lbs and the new vet told me she could get as large as 15 lbs. I guess I was right to change vets since I received more relevant information from the new vet even though its not the size I thought I had signed up for. Go figure.
