The most important think is to put the momma somewhere where she is comfortable and can relax and you can see her. If you have other dogs in the house you need to put them where they can't bother the momma. I always cover our bed with a old comforter and I put our whelping basket on the bed. I will just lay there and watch tv with the momma. Once she really starts pushing hard then I make her get in the whelping basket. Usually once the pups start coming the momma will settle down and stay in place. Best wishes for a safe whelping.
