It took a long time before Samson found out he had a bark, now he barks when things startle him or to let me know he needs out the back door. Harley just recently found his bark and only barks when I leave the back yard through the gate to let me know he is not happy with me leaving him there. He never really barks in the house. Neither one are excessive barkers
