Joey matted a little as a puppy especially under the arms after wearing clothes. I used the Cowboy magic detangler before the bath and mats came right out. I used the detangler in a circular motion, between my thumb and forefinger, right on the mat until it untangled. I've read that it's important not to wet the hair with water when trying to get out a mat, as water can make it worse. Some people use regular conditioner and just work it into the mat, and others have suggested that cornstarch also works, although I've never tried this. There are matting combs that have a sharp blade between the teeth, and these too, must be used with caution, but they cut right through the mat.

I honestly think you should look for another groomer, there are many show breeders that will groom your dog, and know many different cuts and styles and they don't charge that much. It sounds like that grooming shop comes with bragging rights!
