Well, once they get matts, it's almost impossible to get them out. If they are just on his tummy and under his legs, the groomer could just take care of those areas, but it has to be your call.
Gizmo matts horribly with his cottony hair. He's much happier in a short cut (and he looks cute too).
Puppy hair is really easy to matt. You really have to brush it every day, and even then there's no guarantee.
