I learned from my mentor. But, it does require 2 people. One to hold and the other to perform the procedure.
I usually put my dams outside or in another area of the house. Have a softly lighed box with a heating lamp over it close to me. Each puppy is taken from the welping box one at a time and the procedure is performed. Is there crying? Usually a wimper. When each one is finished I put it in the softly lined box beside me to monitor for bleeding. When all is done, bring mom in and put her with them. Pups will be comforted by her and they'll settle down to sleep. I do keep watch for about 3 days for infection, never had it happen. But, I keep epsom salt on hand. |
im trying to remeber because i think i actually posted last year with someone local and i remeber talking to ladyhawk but she either didnt do it herself and/or didnt live close by...my memory is not very long, but i know i have talked to her several times about different things.
THANKS =)
i dont mind the crying and putting mommy out, and keeping it clean from infection im scared of doing it wrong, i was reading where you could cut the spine. i actually bought the hemostats and the whole bit last year but chickened out. and the tieing something around and twisting off or letting it fall off, just really really bothers me.
