Puppies can be very stressful - I'm sure your whole world is upside down right now!! The expen is a great idea. For potty training basics: when the puppy is loose in the house - he must be limited to one room (usu. the family room), the room must be blocked off and all hiding places must be blocked. Lay down some blankets (to save the carpet) and all eyes on the puppy. The idea is to "catch him in the act" and correct the behavior by scooping up the pup and say outside - then take the puppy outside. Stay with and watch the pup until he potties, then praise and treat. Repeat as necessary - be consistent. If the puppy is not being supervised, he must be in a crate.

You have friends here on YT who've gone through the same thing. Puppies are an adjustment to your routine - as the puppy gets older, it will get accustom to your rules and routine and will become part of your family.

Good luck - and leave the water out.
