Are you getting your puppy from a reputable breeder who keeps the puppies until they are 12 weeks old and does all the health testing on the parents? By health testing, I don't mean a routine physical. Reputable breeders screen for genetic conditions Yorkies are prone to like liver shunts, luxating patellas, Legg-Perthes, etc.

Yorkies are 36 times more likely to be born with a liver shunt that all other breeds combined. All breeders should have their adults bile acid tested and be able to show you the results. You should have a bile acids test done on your puppy after he is 20 weeks old to make sure he doesn't have a shunt or liver disease.

Your breeder should have had the knees checked on his parents and be able to show you proof that they don't have luxating patellas.

In addition, breeding dogs should have eyes CERFed, thyroid panels, and be screened for heart disease.

A good breeder will give you a health guarantee on genetic conditions for at least the first year, often up to five years.

If your breeder has done that, then she is reputable and you should stop worrying!
