First off I am so sorry about your husband. Looks like alot of changes in your life all of a sudden. Sorry about your baby too. I know you must be going through alot right now. I personally don't put any chemicals on my dogs for fleas. I give Interceptor for heartworm only because I have too. Chemicals are horrible what they can cause. I would try to find a non toxic spray to treat your yard and I bathe mine in Dawn and then their regular shampoo. The breeder recommended Paul Mitchell's shampoo for pets because we just got a new baby Sunday. He is 13wks. old.
